Are You Where you Thought You'd Be TODAY?

Image
Are You Where You Thought You Would Be Today? So, I haven’t blogged in a while, and even this one will be a quickie. But I thought I would simply start out with a thought-provoking question. No doubt, as soon as you read the title of this post, your mind began to take a deep dive. Maybe you looked back 5 years ago; and now you’re thinking about your current job, or the status of your business, or even your family life. Thus, I’m sure your collective responses are wide-spread, and you really had to take some time to think about it. So, why don’t I share my answer with you to offer you some peace of mind. I'd also like to push you to move into action.  So, am I where I thought I’d be today? The answer is YES and NO. For the most part I am; but, you see, I’ve picked up some "lessons learned" along the way. So, now you’re thinking, “But Daymond, you’re all about success mentoring, planning and coaching. So how can you answer that question in such ...

From Gen X to Gen Y: What Has Experience Shown Me?

Image
Recently, I was asked by an emerging Gen Y entrepreneur if I would be willing to share my thoughts on some burning questions she had for me. She figured my answers would be beneficial to her as she continues to rise and beat each challenge she faces with unyielding success. I welcomed the opportunity to share, especially since the questions were so good. And one thing I pride myself in doing whenever someone is open to my honest, objective feedback is delivering universal truths that will help them succeed. No matter how dry and bitter the bare truth may be, I do not believe in “sugar coating” anything. What’s the point in anyone asking me a question if they simply want the rosy myths about the world we live in? I loved helping this young lady by offering answers I know will help her better navigate her entrepreneurial journey. However, I also figured this was an opportunity for me to blog again. With my busy schedule, I sometimes find it difficult to write blog posts. But our e...

Building Partnership Relationships GRACEFULLY

Image
It’s been a while since I published my last blog, but lately I have been thinking about business etiquette and some major themes in business partnership relationship building that screamed out at me, “Let’s get it together, people!” Over the years, I have either witnessed them first-hand or vicariously through someone else. As a result, I have identified a few key behaviors that should either be avoided or enhanced by business people. Doing so will typically improve their business relationships or allow them to rise to their higher selves in business. So I’m going to bullet them here, and then I will offer my suggestions regarding great ways to approach, deal with, or avoid these situations, and move on. These bullet points can easily apply to the corporate environment; however, I am offering them here with the budding entrepreneur in mind. 1. Beware of fulfilling other people's SELFISH favors. The key word here is selfish . Everybody needs something on the rise to the top...

What Is Success?

Image
Lately I have found myself obsessed with the notion of “success.” What is it? Do I have it? Am I happy with it? There are so many questions I can think of. But yesterday, I ran across the picture with the motivational phrase that you see above. It says, “Success Is a Journey, Not a Destination.” It's a simple picture with a basic phrase, yet it sums up what I truly think about success. Lots of people talk about it; yet, I wonder if they are clear about what their unique definition of success is. Let’s think about success as a destination. From what I hear, when I have general conversation with folks, most tend to think that success is a specific station in life. They make comments like, “I know I’ve made it when I get that car” or “I will know that I am successful when I live in that kind of house.” They might even say, “I will be a complete success when I get that job, and I have that spouse with that type of family.” All of those acquisitions only serve as indicators for re...

Welcome to 2016! There is sooooooo much time until the end of the year, right?! The hustle and bustle of last year is all behind us, and now we have a brand new year to reach new goals and to do new things! WELL...YES...BUT... II encourage everyone to look back on last year and truly ask, "Did I reach my potential? What did I say I was going to accomplish last year? And did I really do that?" I'm almost certain that there will be some area that we all fall short in. AND THAT'S OKAY. But what is not okay is our recognition of our shortcomings, and our failure to attempt to do something about them. THAT IS WHAT THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE IS ALL ABOUT...AND THAT IS WHY WE EXIST... People typically say something along the lines of the following, " Be grateful! You made it to a brand new year! Be thankful" And I agree. But ther is nothing wrong with ALSO doing some self-evaluation while remaining grateful for another year of life. No one will be penalized for ...

My Mom, Her Book, and Me! (The Book Development Process)

Image
My business, Moksha Media, has a subsidiary component called Omniversal Publishing. It had been quite a while since I worked with a client to publish a book...that is until, last year. My mom certainly did not forget that I was in the business, and when she announced to me at the end of 2014 that she was writing a book, she naturally called on me to help out! I was excited and overjoyed. But I also knew that we were in for a BIG JOB! Both she and I welcomed the challenge, and over the last year, we learned so much from one another as we diligently worked to develop her book. THE RESULT..."Metaphors of Faith, Words of a Praying Woman" is now available for purchase! You may purchase the book directly from her website, patsybazile.com . And we are excited about doing some great book promotion work in 2016! Thank you in advance for your support! Anyhow, although this blog post is about my embarkation on a book editing, typesetting, cover illustration, and publishing advent...

Oh, No! It’s Raining. Let’s Postpone…

Image
So last weekend, despite the fact that the clouds were grey, the rain poured, and the roads were slick, I still managed to stick to a pretty rigorous entrepreneurial schedule! My in-person business meetings were still handled without a glitch, and most of my business tasks were completed to my satisfaction. Yet, I could not help but think about how we as entrepreneurs sometimes limit ourselves because of excuses . In the past, I recall having some fledgling business dealings that didn’t seem to be important to some of the potential business associates I was attempting to forge relationships with. I remember how I used to be gung-ho about getting some new venture or business opportunity off the ground, but the other person found an excuse for postponing or canceling the meeting. In many cases I recall THE WEATHER being one of those excuses. Whether this excuse was truly a valid one or not, I may never know. But I will say that I sometimes wondered if something was wrong with me becaus...
